United edge Ajax

Ajax Cape Town led Supersport United 1-0 at half time with a goal from substitute Khama Billiat.
The hero turned villain when he was red carded for a foul on Morgan Gould the United captain to change the nature of the game. Until then Ajax were in control, dictating the pace and the manner how the game was played.
The opening stanza of the game was dominated by the midfielders who conceded free-kicks rather than allow the opposing strikers to get into the danger areas.
The Ajax defence was called into action early on, however Booth and company held firm.
Rusike was offered the first chance to scoring chance when he stole the ball from the United defence but his shot flew just wide of the upright. Ajax made their first substitution, Billiat came on for Manyama who picked up a knock and was unable to continue.
In the 34th minute of the game United carved out their first shot at goal, Franklin Cale’s shot from the edge of the box deflected off Allie for Westerveld to collect with ease.
United continued to press forward but they lost the ball and a long ball forward found Fanteni who played the ball into the path of Billiat who scored to give Ajax the lead.
United responded and in the 40th minute Kermit Erasmus found space on the edge of the Ajax box but his shot flew high over the cross-bar.
Minutes later Billiat received his marching orders when he retaliated after he was fouled by Gould.
Ajax went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Ajax started the second half keen to defend their lead. The Urban Warriors played from the back and attacked on the counter.
United enjoyed the bulk of the possession but they could not break through the blue line of the Ajax defence.
Carelse attacked down the right flank and his cross found Fanteni in space but Fernandez made a double save off the Ajax striker.
United continued to make the extra man count, they pressed forward forcing Ajax to concede a throw-in deep in their own half. The ball was cleared to Hartog, his shot flew into the back of the net deflecting off a divot on the pitch.
Maluleke scored United’s second goal when he pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area to give United the lead.
A late rally by Ajax almost resulted in an equalizing goal. Fernandez ensured United’s win when he cleared Booth’s header off the line in the last minute of the game.
