Ajax lose in Bloemfontein

Ajax Cape Town lost 4-2 to Bloemfontein Celtic at the Free State Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Brent Carelse and Erick Mathoho(og) scored for Ajax Cape Town, while, Erick Mathoho , Lennox Bacela, Clifford Mulenga and Phenyo Mongala scored for Celtic.
The loss in Bloemfontein is a setback for the Urban Warriors who were hoping to bounce back from recent results and get themselves back into the top eight.
Mathoho opened the scoring for Celtic in the 18th minute when he latched onto a loose ball in the Ajax penalty to score for Celtic, Mathoho scored again this time an own goal to equalize for Ajax in the 33rd minute.
Celtic pressed forward and went two-up in the 37th minute when Bacela scored from the penalty spot.
Ajax went in search of an equalizer with Carelse firing just wide in the 46th minute, but he made no mistake when he scored from close range off Rusike’s pass to draw Ajax level.
The game swung from end to end with both keepers making saves to keep the scores level, however two goals in two minutes sealed Ajax Cape Town’s fate when Clifford Mulenga’s free-kick hit the back of the Ajax net despite the efforts of Westerveld to make the save.
Ajax surged forward but they were caught out when a long kick up-field from the Celtic keeper beat the Ajax defense for Mongala to score Celtic’s fourth.
The loss leaves Ajax in ninth place with three games to go before the end of the season and nine points to fight for in order to secure their place in the top eight.
